Junior Accountant

PURPOSE

The Junior Accountant is responsible for routine clerical, filing, and data entry tasks for accounting data including accounts payable, billing, and receivables. To be successful in this role, the Junior Accountant will need to manage high volume data with accuracy and timeliness, ensuring that deadlines are met, as well as resolving issues that arise for internal and external teams.


This position is a full time nonexempt hourly position with benefit eligibility and reports to the Controller. The starting compensation is between $20 and $22 per hour depending on experience and the hours are Mon-Fri between 8am – 5pm.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Process accounts payable including expense reports and payments to vendors including credits, discounts, purchase orders, stop-payments, verification of federal IDs and new vendor set up.
  • Provide excellent customer service with external accounts and maintain vendor relationships; collaborate with internal teams to ensure that communication flows smoothly
  • Prepare, post, verify, and record customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable; create and submit invoices; contact delinquent accountholders and resolve past-due discrepancies and work with internal teams to ensure credit limits are monitored and account balances are valid and collectable
  • Build and update accounts according to customer and business requirements including background checks, maintain and set up customer accounts, review customer standing and balances, manage terms
  • Extract, process and report daily sales for multiple business lines and resolve discrepancies such as shipments, discounts, returns and credit memos
  • Reconcile credit cards and bank accounts ensuring all receipts and transactions are accurately documented
  • Maintain filing system for accounting records within compliance guidelines (deposits for checks, SAP Concur invoices, maintain and update passwords for accounts, credit card documentation)
  • Manage the accounting inbox, timely responses to resolve inquiries
  • Collect, distribute, and resolve snail mail
  • Serve as back-up for other Junior Accountant as needed
  • Build, adapt, and maintain tools and reports
  • Suggest strategies for process improvements
  • Develop and maintain documentation and standards
  • Support change management processes within the department
  • Train new and existing employees on systems and processes
  • Provide support and advice on cross-functional projects
  • Participate in team meetings; provide knowledge, support, and advice for interdepartmental process improvements, projects, or policy revisions
  • Support other teams through problems solving and issue resolution

MUST HAVE

  • Associates Degree in accounting or related field
  • 2 years of experience with accounting
  • General knowledge of accounting systems (preferably SAP and QuickBooks)
  • General knowledge of digital platforms (Shopify, Magento, etc.)
  • General knowledge of accounting principles and US GAAP
  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficient understanding of the financial and business acumen to drive profitability
  • Proficient understanding of excel and analytical reporting
  • Advanced ability to maintain data integrity
  • Ability to learn quickly; creatively solve new problems
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Proficient time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

 

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with Japanese language and culture
  • Experience in the outdoor, retail, or apparel industries

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse audience in person, by phone and by computer
