Snow Peak Way Big Sur Recap
A special thank you to all campers, partners and staff who joined us for Snow Peak Way Big Sur, our first Snow Peak Way campout in California. We can’t wait to be back next year!
Reflect on the weekend through the perspective of Snow Peak Ambassador Rolland Tizuela, who shared his thoughts about the experience.
I have been hearing that California’s first Snow Peak Way held a type of magic unlike those that came before it in the U.S. We were nestled between the coastal redwoods, the smell of campfire smoke floating from a Takibi held still by sunlight suspended between branches, an Alpha Breeze pitched in the center of a fairy ring (literally), and the sound of the Big Sur River bubbling as I watched a Solid Stake #20 pierce the ground with the help of a Copper Head like some type of enchanted inauguration. This is the interplay of humanity and nature…a dance, a ceremony, a conversation of sorts. A feeling of connectedness all of us there at Snow Peak Way felt to some extent…or at least I think.

After the opening ceremony, I was lost in a crowd of friends and a wealth of provisions. Takibi Time is an art form when there are so many willing to fill your heart and your cup. There is a rhythm and an art to mastering the Takibi Time rounds. There is never enough time; the conversations too captivating and the company too good. It’s a practice that I may never perfect.
Saturday was filled with workshops designed by various Snow Peak staff, ambassadors, and partners, ranging from fly fishing and cooking to birding and garland crafting. Each instructor gifted a piece of themselves and their passion. It is truly beautiful to see people sharing what they love with others.

All that to say: the sacredness of Takibi Time, the meditation of setting up a tent, the ritual of morning coffee at KōRoGI Café, these are small acts of gratitude in celebration of the little ceremonies. I left SPW CA holding something that felt less like an experience and more like a gift. Not quite a fire inside, but a glowing ember, warm and cozy. I find myself wanting to share this gift with everyone back home and on every camping trip...like the camping version of Omiyage.

One more special thank you to our partners! Follow them on Instagram to stay updated on what they’re working on.
