SnowMiner Design Features: “Light in the Eyes”

December 30th, 2011

A common question we’ve had some people ask about our new SnowMiner Headlamp / Lantern is whether the light will shine in the users eyes while in use.  This would have been a possibility due to the ambient light that comes off the LED bulb since it does not have a solid enclosure like traditional headlamps on the market.  One user even asked the question on a forum we saw asking whether light would shine in a users eyes if they were wearing glasses.

We try to consider this early in the design phase of the SnowMiner  and came up with a simple solution.  By adding a small molded visor at the bottom of the plastic enclosure we were able to block light from the users eyes.  You can see from the pictures below that even when tilting the headlamp, light does not hit the users nose until it has been tilted five clicks.

To answer the other question in the forum about the 80 Lumens and 55 hours, yes it’s true the SnowMiner will last 55 hours on high.  LED technology is changing so quickly that each year new innovations come out that are more efficient then older models.  Our assumptions would be that new headlamps coming out in 2012 will continue to become more and more efficient.

Under the silicone dome the molded headlamp enclosure features a visor to protect against light in the users eyes.

SnowMiner in Wired Magazine’s NYC Store

December 8th, 2011

In October we introduced our newest lighting product, the SnowMiner Headlamp / Lantern.  The reception of the headlamp has been spectacular with many people checking it out as a Holiday gift idea. It has even been featured in the 2011 Wired Magazine New York pop-up shop and online store.  Most people have told us they enjoy its unique innovative design to transform from a headlamp into a lantern.  Where most headlamp just shine on a focused area the Snow Miner uses a silicone globe with an embedded lens and magnets to transform from a focused beam to ambient light. An built-in hook in the headband makes it perfect for your tent (check out video below).  You can check the SnowMiner (pg. 169) out in the December issue of Wired Magazine along with the Titanium Straw (pg. 148).

Hozuki Light Tips and Instructions

October 28th, 2011

Since introducing the Hozuki light in Spring of 2010 we have received a lot of feedback and the product has been well received by its many users.  Using consumer feedback, in January 2011 we introduced an updated model featuring twice the battery life and a low battery indicator.  We retained the elegant design and romantic candle feature to bring style to the outdoors.  To attest to the Hozuki lights quality in manufacturing we have yet to receive a returned Hozuki Light that was actually broken. The few returns we have received have been fixed with minor adjustments by properly assembling or replacing the batteries.  This is a great example of the care we put into manufacturing our products.  To help with some confusion and common questions with the Hozuki light we have made a video to help with potential problems you may experience with your light. Here are some answers to a few questions we get.

“Why does my Hozuki light turn off after a few seconds?”

  • The Hozuki light has a regulated power output which means if the current to the circuit board drops below a certain level the light will shut off.  This prevents the light from slowly dimming before it stops working.  The main reason the light shuts off is you have low batteries.  Secondly you should check the battery connection and be sure that the light is properly assembled.

“How do I reassemble my Hozuki light”

  • It can seem a bit difficult the first time however if you can’t figure it out with the included instructions then watch the video below.

If you have any other questions feel free to post them on our Facebook Fan Page and we’ll do our best to promptly answer them.

Colored Titanium Sporks have arrived

May 9th, 2011

Your favorite lightweight, universal utensil just got a little brighter. Arriving in stores this week are the Colored
Titanium Sporks
. Using an anodizing process where different levels of electric currents are is used to change the
chemistry of the titanium. These brilliantly colored Sporks look amazing when you see them first hand.

A common question is will the anodized coloring eventually wear off?  Since its not coated but a molecular bond,
it is much more durable however you can scratched through the anodized layer. The anodizing process used is
just like our Colored Titanium Mugs and we’ve chosen similar colors to match them.

They are available in Blue, Purple & Green for only $9.95. Check them out now at Snow Peak.

Overland Expo 2011

April 20th, 2011

The weekend of April 1-3 we attended our first Overland Expo showing off all the gear we have to offer from luxury camping to minimalist camping.  The Overland Expo is an event held annually in Amado, AZ located just south of Tucson. The Expo is public show for Overlanding enthusiasts who are interested in furthering their knowledge and driving techniques through various classes offered.  Also many manufactures were available on site to provide expertise on outfitting people and their vehicles for Overlanding.

Overlanding is an activity for those who travel for days, weeks or months around the world sometimes through multiple countries either by vehicle or motorcycle.  Overlanding trips typically consist of traveling on off pavement back roads.  To learn more about Overlanding check out Overland Journal, their magazine is full of adventure stories and some of the best outdoor photography.

At the event we lent our expertise in kitchen camping gear and our experiences with preparing food in the field.  It was enjoyable learning more about the community as well as taking in a few classes on traveling through Mexico on a motorcycle, one pot cooking, and preparing your vehicle for Overlanding.   Like many Snow Peak enthusiast a lot of the attendees of the Expo were happy to see the wide variety of Snow Peak products first hand. We did our best to set-up a grand display of bamboo tables, chairs, cookware, and stoves and we believe many people were impressed with our breadth of products.

At the show we introduced one of our newest products coming available in May, the 2 Unit Iron Grill Table.  This smaller frame size will be great for those who desire an even more compact configurable camp kitchen.  Check it out if you haven’t seen it already.

To check out photos from those who attended the event go here there is also a video on the expo available.
