Snow Peak’s Five Best Kept Secrets – #2

January 22nd, 2013

Most of the camping furniture you will find on the market today compromises beauty for the sake of utility.  You venture into the outdoors to experience wonder and beauty, then you setup your hideous aluminum table and chairs staining the work of art you find yourself in.  What a tragedy!

At Snow Peak, we pride ourselves on combining utility and beauty into products that fit the tones and colors of the natural environment.  A product that exemplifies this idea is the next selection of our Best Kept Secret’s series.  The Snow Peak Single Action Bamboo Table provides an aesthetic that seamlessly matches the warm energy of the great outdoors.

The Snow Peak Single Action Bamboo Table comes in two sizes.  The smaller size comfortably seats 4, while the larger size can seat up to 6.  The dining surface of the Single Action Bamboo table is made up of a laminated bamboo that is weatherproof, so you can rest assured it will last for years to come.  The legs fold together in a single action, patented design allowing you to place the table in a nylon carrying case so you can transport it anywhere life might take you!

Whether you are in the middle of the Redwoods . . .

Or cooking crab at the beach . . .

Snow Peak’s Single Action Bamboo Table will inspire you to embrace the wonder of nature in all its beauty.

Snow Peak’s Five Best Kept Secrets – #3

November 30th, 2012

One of the reasons I love Snow Peak’s products is because they make me happy.

Snow Peak products make me happy because they’re fun. More than that, they make me happy because when I use them I know I am saving the environment by reducing waste. The item I have selected for #3 of our best kept secrets makes me happy for both these reasons—it’s fun and environmentally friendly.

We all dream of drinking directly from an orange, and now that dream can become a reality with the brand new Snow Peak Titanium Straw! Or, how about drinking from a coconut?

Or save the environment by drinking your next carton of milk with our titanium straw rather than a plastic straw.

Or have some fun with friends by puncturing into an aluminum can with the raw power of this one of a kind straw!  Here is my friend Scott reaping the benefits of just such a puncture.

What will you use the Snow Peak Titanium Straw to puncture?  Here are some ideas from our friends at ThinkGeek.com:

Have some fun while saving the environment this holiday season by getting your friends and family a Snow Peak Titanium Straw here.  It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

Snow Peak’s Five Best Kept Secrets – #4

October 22nd, 2012

Snow Peak is best known in the U.S. for our small lightweight backpacking stoves.  The product I would like to feature for #4 of our best kept secrets is less well known.  Our stoves are great for cooking in the backcountry but not much help in starting a camp fire.  That is why Snow Peak created the Snow Peak Torch.

The Snow Peak Torch packs 14,000 BTU’s that guaranty you will never have to wait for you coals to slowly warm again, and 14,000 BTU’s that promise you will never have to struggle through starting a fire with damp wood next time you wake up on a soggy morning.  Oh no, never again!  Back-up, be safe, and let the Snow Peak Torch do what it does best.

Here is an example of why I love the Snow Peak Torch.  The other weekend my wife and I went camping.  I was complaining, as always, that we would have to wait an hour to get our coals ready to cook.  My wife kindly reminded me, “dear, do you not remember that you own a Snow Peak Torch!”

Getting the coals going was as easy as one . . .

Two . . .

Three!

And just like that, we were cooking our bratwursts on our Snow Peak Single BBQ Box.

I am quite certain that I am not the only one who has experienced the usefulness of our Snow Peak torch, so I would like to invite our loyal Snow Peak customers to share your stories and videos of how the Snow Peak torch has assisted you on your various camping adventures.  Please share these stories and videos with us on our Snow Peak Facebook Page.  The staff at Snow Peak will pick our favorite and give them one of our brand new Mini Hozukis.   Below is an example video from our friends at OverlandGourmet.com using the torch to make smores.  Yum/Yikes!

If you are still reading this blog you must really be interested in getting a Snow Peak Torch for yourself or a friend, so purchase one from us here.  And always remember, safety first!

Where was your Kanpai bottle this weekend?

October 18th, 2012

October, the most reliable month in the Pacific Northwest. I only had a few hours and needed to get out of the city to enjoy some Autumn air. Within 20 minutes I was sitting along the banks of the Clackamas River and brewing it up.

Couldn’t resist this shot of my Kanpai bottle… needless to say my coffee break was all it could be.

My friends accuse me of coffee snobbery… guilty. But what I’ve realized is that it’s all about the process and the products involved.

OK… rejuvenation complete.

Scrap Surf

October 8th, 2012

Experiment No. 3 – Scrap Surf from Shwood Eyewear on Vimeo.

Our fellow Portland based brand Shwood, makers of wooden sunglasses, continues their very smart marketing with taking scrap wood found along the Oregon coast to make an amazing surf board.  Founder Eric Singer teams up with custom board maker Joe Blecha to create the one of a kind Swhood surf board. Lots of chickens throughout and at the end you can see pro surfer Kahana Kalama testing it out.

Snow Peak’s Five Best Kept Secrets — #5

September 10th, 2012

If you are reading this blog right now, chances are you are familiar with many of Snow Peak’s great camping products.  As a brand Snow Peak is known for its elegant backpacking stoves, lanterns, and cookware, but as a first class camping company Snow Peak provides so much more often unknown to the general public.  To bring further awareness to the blind spots in Snow Peak’s product repertoire, I thought it would be fun to create a blog listing Snow Peak’s five best kept secret products.

Today, I will start with number five, and each consecutive month I will count down until reaching numero uno.  I invite you as the reader to comment on our Snow Peak Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/snowpeak) with what you would include in Snow Peak’s top five best kept secrets.

Snow Peak’s Best Kept Secret # 5: The Snow Peak Camping Buckets

I know the Snow Peak Camping Buckets may not seem that exciting.  But as far as functionality and usefulness goes, the Snow Peak camping buckets are off the charts.  My wife and I would have been at a lost this summer without our 6 gallon nylon PVC Camping Bucket.

Without it, I don’t know how we would have done all those dishes while camping this summer.

Here is a picture of my wife Rachel in our Snow Peak outdoor camping kitchen.  Notice the camping bucket drying on the right.  My wife will not go camping with out the bucket!  She loves to stay organized.

Or how about when we went blackberry picking.  With out it, what would we have put all those blackberries in?  The blackberry cobler that came as result was ooohh sooo good!

Best of all, the blackberry juice came right off, so the next day I was able to use the camping bucket as an overnight bag for a trip to the beach.

Unfortunately, this best kept secret has gotten out, and a number of our camping buckets are out of stock.  But if you are interested in purchasing one, please e-mail your name to orders@snowpeak.com so we can put you on our waiting list to be contacted upon the arrival of our next shipment.

If you own a Snow Peak camping bucket, what has been some of your favorite uses of it?

Trip to Mt Jefferson

September 5th, 2012

Our destination: Jefferson Wilderness and the mountain itself. Our plan was to get as close to the top as we could without getting too technical. We traveled 63 miles east of Salem on Hwy. 22, passing Detroit Lake to the left turn for Pamelia Lake. At the end of that road we found the trailhead and set out. Our lead car had seen a Black Bear skirting the road on our way up so we all kept close for the first mile. Five and a half miles of easy hiking to Pamelia for a warm-up and then one mile uphill to the Pacific Crest Trail. From there it was only three miles to Shale Lake, our base camp for our foray up the mountain.

A perfect day, not a mosquito to be seen…as long as we kept moving.

We made it to Shale Lake by 6:00 p.m. and quickly set up camp. The Southeast side offered the best site, with a snow-melt creek for our water supply.

Shale Lake with our view of Mt. Jefferson…would some of us actually make it to the top?

Now for the real fun: backpackers’ gourmet via Snow Peak’s Ti-Multi Compact Cook Set. Our supper…curried vegetables with bacon, sweet potatoes, and couscous–yeah!

Well-fed happy hikers use their favorite titanium cups to toast the magic of friendship and the mountain air.

Morning of day two: trudging the vague trails of summer snow and timberline hills upward to the ridge just visible on the right–our lunch stop.

Our well deserved lunch break is rewarded with a view of the Cascade Range South of Mt. Jefferson: Three-fingered Jack, Mt. Washington, and Three Sisters near Bend. Though our picture doesn’t do it justice, we all agreed that it must be Mt. Shasta in the distance.
